Pumpkin seeds, like sunflower seeds are a nutritious and delicious snack. Peeling them, or shelling them, however, is not an easy task. There are a couple of different methods that one can use in order to get to the tasty seeds within the shell. Beware, however, that peeling pumpkin seeds can be a time-consuming task and works best if more than one person is working on them.

Step 1
Cook pumpkin seeds thoroughly before peeling them. Boiling, roasting or frying pumpkin seeds are all common cooking practices. There is debate, amongst those who have tried the various methods, regarding which one works best. The choice is yours, though. Use whichever one you prefer or whichever you find makes the seeds easier to peel.

Step 2
Begin the daunting task by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Wash your hands for at least 15 seconds to ensure that they are clean before you begin peeling the pumpkin seeds. Washing your hands will ensure that no germs are transferred to the pumpkin seeds once they are peeled.

Step 3
Dump pumpkin seeds out onto a flat surface. A countertop or a table works best. Have a bowl ready to put the freshly peeled seeds into and a garbage can to put the shells into. You will need to peel one seed at a time and the process can be time consuming, unless you have a pumpkin seed-hulling machine.

Step 4
Crack the pumpkin seed in half, using your fingers. The best way to accomplish this is to grab the seed at the narrowest part and crack it at that point. Attempting to peel the seed from the widest part isn't usually very successful and can result in the seed being broken.

Step 5
Place the shells in the garbage can and place the seeds in the bowl that you have set aside for the shelled pumpkin seeds. Make sure that you don't put the shells into the pumpkin seed bowl; otherwise you'll need to pick them out. Continue the steps above until all the seeds are peeled and ready to eat.
