Everybody likes to chill out occasionally and play a game or two to pass the time. If you have Apple iMessage, you may not realize you can install and play games on this messaging app, and you can even challenge your contacts. There are two caveats, though: the other person must have iMessage too, and they must install the same game on their phone. Once that’s done, game on.

To play a game on iMessage with your contact, open the iMessage conversation window, then tap the + icon > More > Store. Browse the list of games available, and install one by tapping the Get button. Return to the message window, tap the + icon > More > select your game. Make your move, and wait for your contact to respond.

How to play iMessage games on your iPhone

To start playing a game on iMessage, follow the steps below:

1. Open the message window for the contact you want to play with.
2. Tap the + icon next to the text box, then tap More on the menu that appears.
3. On the expanded menu, tap Store.
4. The available games will be listed in the Play Games on iMessage section. Tap See All to view all the games, then tap Get alongside the app to install it.
5. Once the app is installed, head back to your message window and press the + icon again, then More to extend the menu.
6. Finally, select the game that you installed from the list. In this case, I installed Cobi Darts. Tap on the icon, and the game will start.

Make your move, and when you’re done, your contact will receive an iMessage that it is their turn to move. There’s no time limit on when they must make their move, so it can all be done at everyone’s convenience.
