Spain's Met Office, AEMET, gave it the name which is a common boys name in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries and is the equivalent to George in English.
The UK's Met Office, based in Exeter, has issued separate 'yellow' weather warnings for rain and wind which affect Devon and Cornwall.
The warning for rain is in place over Devon and Cornwall from 3am tomorrow (February 28) to 6am on Saturday (February 29) while the alert for wind has been set up for 24 hours from 12pm on Saturday.
Given the difference in spelling to its English equivalent, the pronunciation of Jorge has prompted some debate.
In Spanish, the letter J sounds more like how a H would in English. On top of this, a G followed by an E also sounds more like a H to English-tuned ears.
To finish it off, Es in Spanish sound like "eh".
So, rather than trying to say "George" but with an English-sounding hard J similar to the first letter of the word judge, the correct pronunciation is closer to "Hor-hay".
To help further, Dustin Morse who works for U.S. baseball team the Minnesota Twins tweeted a video in September of pitcher Jorge Alcala, a Dominican Republic national, saying his name.
Explaining why it has not changed the name of the storm to Ellen, which is the next on the list, the Met Office said it is standard procedure not to rename storms as part of an agreement with other services.
"The Spanish meteorological service, part of the south west Europe storm naming group, named Storm Jorge on Thursday (27th)," the Met Office website says.
"It is convention for all other national meteorological services to then use that name when referring to the low pressure.
