How To Quickly Block An Email Address On Your Mac

Tired of getting emails from folks or organizations you don’t want to receive messages from (I’m looking at you Eyesight Max and Senior Living)? With macOS 11 Big Sur, you can block ‘em!

  1. Open Mail app on your Mac
  2. Choose an email from the sender you want to block
  3. Move the pointer next to their name in the message header
  4. Click the arrow on the right
  5. Choose Block Contact

The Blocked icon appears next to the sender’s name in the message list and a banner is added to their messages to indicate they’re blocked. The banner also provides a link to the Blocked pane in Mail preferences where you can manage blocked senders.

You can also add senders directly to your list of blocked senders.

  1. Choose Mail > Preferences
  2. Click Junk Mail
  3. Click Blocked

You can unblock senders if you change your mind.

  1. Open the Mail app
  2. Pick a message from the sender you want to unblock
  3. Move the pointer next to their name in the message header
  4. Click the arrow
  5. Choose Unblock Contact

You can also remove senders directly from the list of blocked senders. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Junk Mail, then click Blocked.
