This wikiHow article teaches you how to record a Zoom meeting using your iPhone or iPad. When you're hosting (or co-hosting) a meeting and using the licensed version of Zoom, you'll also have the option of recording to the cloud, allowing you to share the finished video with anyone who couldn't attend. As a participant, you may also be able to use your device’s built-in screen recorder, but capturing audio can be tricky. Read on to learn more about your options and possible workarounds.

Quick Steps

  1. Start a Zoom meeting as host or co-host. You’ll need a paid account to access the Record feature.
  2. Tap Record in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap Start recording.
  3. Once you’re ready to end the meeting, tap Record again and select Stop recording.
  4. Check your email for a message with a shareable link to the recording.

Steps

Section 1 of 2:

Recording as a Host

PDF download Download Article
  1. Step 1 Start a Zoom meeting. 1 Start a Zoom meeting. If you're hosting (or co-hosting) a Zoom meeting from your iPhone or iPad and have a licensed version of Zoom, you can use Zoom's built-in recording tools to save a video of your meeting to the cloud.[1]
    • If you're using the free version of Zoom or you are not the host, you can still record your meeting using your iPhone or iPad's Screen Recording tool, but you may need to try some workarounds to get a recording with sound.
    • Recording a meeting with this method saves the finished video to the cloud, not your iPhone or iPad's storage.[2]
  2. Step 2 Tap Record. 2 Tap Record. You’ll see this button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you don’t see the toolbar, tap your screen to make it appear.

  3. Step 3 Select Start recording. 3 Select Start recording. This option will appear in a popup menu. A voiceover alert will let you and your participants know that you’ve started recording. You should also see an icon in the upper left corner of the screen that says Recording, but you might have to tap the screen to see it.
  4. Step 4 Tap Record again when you’re ready to stop recording. 4 Tap Record again when you’re ready to stop recording. From the popup menu, select Stop recording to end the recording completely, or tap Pause recording to pause it temporarily.
    • When you stop the recording, you’ll be prompted to confirm by tapping Stop in the dialogue window that pops up. A voiceover will announce that the recording has stopped.
    • You can also stop or pause the recording by tapping the Recording icon in the top left corner of the screen, then tapping the control buttons in the popup menu.
    • After the meeting is over, Zoom will send you an email with a link to the recording in the cloud. This email contains both view and share links, plus a passcode that you can share with other meeting participants.

Section 2 of 2:

Recording as a Participant

PDF download Download Article
  1. Step 1 Be aware of the legalities of recording as a participant. 1 Be aware of the legalities of recording as a participant. While the laws vary by country and region, in a lot of places it’s illegal to record a meeting without permission from all the participants. Before you try recording a Zoom meeting, look up your local laws and tell the host and other participants about your intentions if necessary.
    • In general, it’s safest and easiest to just have the host record.
  2. Step 2 Add the screen recording option to your Control Center. 2 Add the screen recording option to your Control Center. If you're not the host of the meeting (or if you don't have the paid version of Zoom), you can use this method to record your meeting. Unfortunately, this method is likely to result in a video recording with no sound, but you might be able to bypass this problem by accessing the meeting through a browser instead of the Zoom app. First, here's how to add Screen Recording to your Control Center:
    • Open the Control Center on your iPhone or iPad. With most newer devices, you can do this by swiping down from the top right side of the screen. If you have an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom.
    • Press and hold an empty area of the Control Center, then tap Add a Control.
    • Tap Screen Recording. If you don’t see it, use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for it. Once you tap the control, it will be instantly added to your Control Center.
  3. Step 3 Open Zoom in a browser. 3 Open Zoom in a browser. If you use the Zoom app, you’ll get a recording with no sound. However, you may be able to get around this by opening the Zoom meeting in a browser on your iPhone or iPad. Navigate to [3] and get ready to either start or join a meeting. If you see an option to join the meeting from your browser, tap the browser link instead of opening the meeting in the Zoom app.
    • This option will only work if the meeting administrator has enabled the “Join from your browser” option. If you have administrator privileges, you can do this by logging into the Zoom website (not the app), then going to Account Management > Account Settings > Meeting > In Meeting (Advanced) and toggling on Join meeting from browser.[4]
    • You can either start/join the meeting now, or wait until you’ve started recording your screen.
    • If you’re not able to get this option to work, you may have to record the sound from the meeting on an external device and sync it with the video later.
  4. Step 4 Open your iPhone or iPad's Control Center when you're ready to record. 4 Open your iPhone or iPad's Control Center when you're ready to record.
    • If you're using an iPhone or iPad that doesn't have a separate Home button, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
    • If you do have a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  5. Step 5 Tap the record button. 5 Tap the record button. It’s the circle inside of another circle. The button will display a brief countdown and then the screen will start recording.
    • While the recording is in process, you’ll see a red recording icon at the top of your screen.
  6. Step 6 Close the Control Center. 6 Close the Control Center. This returns you to the previous screen, which is the Zoom meeting.[5] The screen is now recording.
    • If your phone or tablet has a Home button, press it to close the Control Center.
    • If there's no Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or just tap any blank area to close the Control Center.
  7. Step 7 Return to Zoom and join (or start) the meeting. 7 Return to Zoom and join (or start) the meeting. The button you tap depends on whether you started a new meeting or are joining an existing one. The meeting will begin, and it's being recorded.
  8. Step 8 Reopen the Control Center when you're ready to stop recording. 8 Reopen the Control Center when you're ready to stop recording. As you did earlier, swipe down from the top-right if you don't have a separate Home button, or swipe up from the bottom if you do.
  9. Step 9 Tap the record button to stop. 9 Tap the record button to stop. It’s the same button you tapped earlier, except now it’s red. This ends the recording. You’ll find the finished video in your iPhone or iPad’s Photos app.
    • You can also tap the screen recording icon at the top of your screen to end the recording.
  10. Step 10 Try a third-party screen recording app if this doesn’t work. 10 Try a third-party screen recording app if this doesn’t work. If you can’t use the workarounds described above to capture sound from the meeting, there are a few other options you can try. Download a screen recording app from the App Store, such as Screen Recorder Voice & Video or Record it!. You can also try options like Otter, which uses AI to transcribe the audio from Zoom and other virtual meeting apps.

Common Questions: Recording Zoom Meetings

Why can't I record on Zoom on my iPad?

If you don't see an option in Zoom to record, it's likely because you don't have permissions. You'll need to contact your Zoom administrator to get the right privileges to record meetings. You also may not have the right Zoom account type. Only Pro, Business, or Education accounts can record Zoom meetings.

How do I record Zoom on a tablet that isn't an iPad?

You can use your tablet's native screen recording setting, or you can download a third-party screen recorder from your device's app store. Note that you may encounter issues recording your screen if your tablet's storage is full or if the screen recording app you select has recording limits.

Can I record my Zoom meeting with sound?

If you don't hear anything in your Zoom recording, it's possible that the wrong microphone was selected in the Zoom app. If you're using a third-party screen recording app, you may need to set specific settings in that app to record audio, or you may not have access to certain features of the app. Zoom may also disable sound when you try to record from your iPhone or iPad’s built-in screen recorder.
