How to store pork chops

Storing your make-ahead or leftover pork chops properly is essential in the reheating process. Warming up pork chops may be unsafe when they aren’t properly stored, or especially when they’re left out for more than two hours at room temperature. So how to store pork chops the right way? Well, it’s easy! Here are the simple steps on how to store leftover, meal-prepped, or make-ahead pork chops in the fridge:

  1. Place your pork chops in a clean, dry, shallow airtight container or wrap tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
  2. Once done, refrigerate the food. Your pork chops should be stored in the coldest section of the refrigerator, which is usually towards the back of the fridge.

Pro tip: When properly stored and kept cold, cooked pork chops will last for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

Can you reheat pork chops?

Yes, reheating pork chops is easy if you store them well. In fact, it’s possible to warm them up in the oven, stovetop, or microwave. Keep in mind that reheating pork chops so that they are still tasty and moist means there are a few steps to take to keep them from drying out.I strongly recommend using the oven method in reheating pork chops as this technique allows the meat to be thoroughly heated. Just keep the pork chops covered during the reheating process to ensure that the meat won’t be overcooked. If you’re in a hurry, then pick the microwave method. But this is not the best option because microwaving may not heat the meat evenly or, worse, might overcook it, which turns many foods rubbery while leaving it cold in the center.

How to reheat pork chops in the oven

The oven method is the ideal reheating technique for pork chops because the oven is perfect for even heating. We found a handy tip from Chef Rahul Akerkar. Find the video below to see how he does it. To reheat pork chops in the oven, here are the things you need to do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place three slices of plain white bread on an oven-safe pan. Make sure they’re large enough to hold your pork chops. (1:1 ratio)
  3. Add five tablespoons of chicken or vegetable stock to the bread.
  4. Once done, place the pork chops on top of the bread.
  5. Slide them into the oven and heat for about 15 minutes.

Pro tip: The bread allows the flavorful steam to heat from above and below your chop while keeping it moist!

How to reheat pork chops on the stovetop

If you plan to avoid the oven heat, another reheating alternative you can opt for is using your stovetop. Just like the oven method, you need a splash of chicken broth or oil to reheat your pork chops. Just make sure to cook them at medium heat to ensure that you won’t burn the bottom of the meat.

  1. Add a splash of oil or chicken broth to the pan. Just water is okay, too.
  2. Set it to medium heat and then add the pork chops. Don’t overcrowd it.
  3. Cover it with a lid and bring the oil or chicken broth to a simmer.
  4. Flip your pork chops after three minutes. Add more oil or stock if necessary.
  5. Continue reheating until the pork chops have reached an internal temperature of 165 Fahrenheit.

How to reheat pork chops in the microwave

Though it isn’t the perfect method to reheat pork chops, warming up the meat using a microwave is still a good choice, especially when you’re short on time. Just be sure to pick the right power setting and keep checking Typically, the ideal microwave setting for pork chops is 50 percent power. Avoid heating the meat higher than 50 percent, or you’ll end up having dry pork chops for dinner. We also found an essential tip from Chef Tristan of BNM PH. Watch the video to see how he does it below. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Place pork chop in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Add a T of water or broth to the plate under the pork chop. Cover.
  3. Heat the meat at 50 percent power for approximately 30 seconds.
  4. Turn the chop and keep checking the temp.
  5. Continue reheating until the pork chop is hot enough or reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. Once done, carefully remove it from the microwave. Let it cool down for a minute, then serve.

The bottom line

See, reheating pork chops isn’t as complicated as you thought it would be. As long as you follow the instructions above, there’s no need to worry! If you want to bring back the tender goodness of your favorite meat, pick the oven and stovetop reheating method! For a quick reheating fix, place the pork chops on a microwave-safe plate, then pop them in your microwave oven!Just remember to turn and test so your meat doesn’t dry out.
