In a previous post, I covered how to clean and maintain window screens. But then I realized, maybe I should get down to the basics: how to remove a window screen. If you put too much force or flex the frame too much, the screen could possibly tear or the frame might crack.

Follow these steps to easily remove a window screen with lift tabs:

  1. Fully open the window.
  2. Gently press the top corner of the screen into the frame to depress the hidden spring.
  3. Pull the screen tab on the opposite side. The top portion of the screen should pop out.
  4. Repeat these steps with the bottom portion of the window screen to remove the window from the bottom railing.

For screens that do not have pins nor tabs, you will have to use a tool to pry one side up to pop out each side. Try to use a tool that will provide some leverage, like a flat-head screwdriver. Use the tool to pull the screen frame an inch or so inward to dislodge the screen from the track.

Voila! It’s that easy! If you need further help, feel free to give me a call at 760-717-3187.
