Chewing gum is your shoe’s worst nightmare! We’ve all been there. You’re walking down the street and the next thing you know, you have gum wedged into the soles of your shoes. Now what?  Don’t worry! Follow this handy guide on how to remove gum from shoes with the help of WD-40.

Things you will need

  • WD-40® Multi Use Product Smart Straw

  • Nail Polish Remover

  • A cloth

  • Paper towels

Step 1

Let's Get Started

To remove gum from shoes, firstly, take your shoe, nail polish remover and kitchen towels. Carefully, pour a small amount of nail polish remover onto the gum. Be mindful to only put this product on the sole of the shoe, on the affected area. Avoid using on any fabric material, to prevent possible damage.  If you are concerned, you should also check with your shoe manufacturer first, before using acetone.

Allow 5 minutes for the polish to dissolve before wiping away with a kitchen towel.

Step 2

WD-40 to the rescue

Now, take your trusty can of  WD-40 Multi-Use Product Smart Straw. For extra precision when spraying the formula onto the sole of your shoe, use the Smart Straw applicator to ensure that you only apply WD-40 to the chewing gum. It’s important not to apply this product onto any other area of your shoe, especially fabric, because WD-40 may leave oil stains on fabric. It’s best to avoid spraying on any other areas that may be susceptible to staining.

Step 3

Wipe Away

After application, grab a clean cloth or rag and wipe away the product. You may find that you want to apply some more product onto the area, just to ensure all the gum has been removed. If this is the case, simply repeat step two and step three until satisfied.

Step 4

The final step

Ensure all product has been removed from the sole of your shoe before use- to avoid any slipping hazards. After wiping off the excess WD-40, take another clean rag, soak it in water, and give the sole of your shoe a good scrub. Once you’ve done this, allow it to air dry, and then you should be good to go.
