Did You Get Hair Dye on Your Bathroom Wall?

If you color-treat your hair or you’re looking to change up your look, there’s a chance that you may complete the task on your own instead of heading to a salon. And if that’s the case, it’s possible that you may get some hair dye on your bathroom wall — not noticing the splat until you’re just about to hop into the shower.

If this has happened to you, or you’re afraid that it will, here’s how to help remove that pesky splatter of hair dye off your wall.

How to Remove Hair Dye Off a Painted Wall

1. Blot the Dye

Before trying to remove the dye with a chemical cleaner, consider blotting the splat with an old towel or fabric napkin — since that will help absorb a tad more than a paper towel can.

2. Gently Scrub the Area

Once you’ve blotted, it’s time to create a cleaning solution to help break up the dye. To start, take about ¼ tablespoon of dish detergent and mix it with some warm tap water. Next, take a sponge and gently work on removing the stain — but don’t make too big a stride, since there’s a chance you could make the stain spread.

3. Use Hydrogen Peroxide

To help remove the stain's presence even more, consider using hydrogen peroxide on it. With the help of a cotton swab or cotton ball, blot the area and give it a full day to dry. Over the next few days, continue this process until the stain lightens up.

4. Paint Over the Stain

Finally, after you’ve applied hydrogen peroxide to the stain a few times throughout the week, take a small bit of paint and cover up the spot. Once dried, it will appear as if there was never a hair dye stain in the first place!
