There are lots of common causes for scuffs and scratches on your car, and it’s especially annoying when you realise it wasn’t even your fault. As well as this, repairs can be costly. There’s nothing worse than that dreaded feeling you get just by looking at your car now – it looks displeasing and unattractive. You’re embarrassed, and what could be worse than having to pay a fortune to fix it?
Well, don’t worry, WD-40 is here to help. With a few easy steps, you can learn how to affordably remove scuff marks from a car, as well as how to repair scratches.
Things you will need
- WD-40® Multi-Use Product Smart Straw
- x3 Cloths
- Soft Sponge
- Gloves {optional}
Step 1
Preparation
To get started, gather the equipment you’ll need. Grab a clean, soft sponge and your handy can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product Smart Straw. You may want to wear gloves for this, however, that’s entirely optional.
Step 2
Grab your can of WD-40!
Now, with your can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product Smart Straw, carefully spray onto the effected scuff mark areas. WD-40’s Smart Straw is a precision applicator, so this will help you with accuracy. Please be aware that scuff or paint removal should not be attempted on a car with matt paint. Any aggressive rubbing can ruin a matt car’s finish.
This product can also help with paint scuff mark removal. Simply repeat the process of spraying the WD-40 product onto the area, and scrub. WD-40 Multi-Use Product not only saturates the paint and slightly softens it to make it easier to remove, but it also lubricates the car surface allowing you to scrub without scratching your car. WD-40 Multi-Use Product is not aggressive enough to dissolve paint which is why it is safe to use on a cars painted surface. However, this means that you will need to scrub at the paint to remove, and may need to reapply the product.
Step 3
Wipe excess product
Lastly, take a clean cloth and wipe away any excess product.
Pro Tip: To help you with removing any scratches on your car, we recommend using a product such as T-Cut. This product will help to reduce the visibility of scratches as well as removing light surface scratches, marks and scuffs on paintwork. To use this, ensure the paintwork is completely dry to avoid the risk of damaging the paintwork when polishing. Then, working the T-Cut product in a circular motion, firmly rub the solution over the scratch marks using a cloth. Once your satisfied, take another clean, dry cloth and remove the excess product. We recommend that you wax your car on a regular basis to prevent future corrosion, because removing damage from your car leaves it more vulnerable to more damage later.
