Soy sauce is a staple of many Asian dishes, and sushi, noodles and stir fries aren't quite the same without it! But its distinctly dark colour can become a cause for alarm if you spill it on your clothes, furniture or carpet.

Unlike some other condiments like ketchup or mayonnaise, soy sauce is very thin, meaning that it's easy to get it everywhere while you're eating. Fortunately, it's a pigment-based stain, so it's easier to get out than you think, provided you act fast.

General directions

Use white paper towels to blot as much liquid as you can from the stained area. Follow the directions below for specific fabrics.

Carpet

Apply White Wizard to the stain. Allow to stand for a few minutes, then blot with lightly dampened, white paper towels or a clean, white, lint-free cloth. Rinse to remove any remaining traces. Allow the carpet to dry.

Washable fabrics

Flush the stained area with lots of cool water — this alone should get rid of most of it. Then, gently rub White Wizard into any remaining stain and leave to stand for a few minutes. Blot with paper towels, then machine-wash according to fabric type. For cotton, wash at 40°C with biological detergent. For silk and wool, wash at 30°C on the delicates cycle.
