Private Snapchat stories are shared with specific people and not visible to the public. Unfortunately, if you see a photo/video of yourself on someone's private story, you can only report the story and hope that it gets taken down. Still, if you have been added to someone's private story and don't want to be, you can remove yourself rather easily. This wikiHow article will teach you how to remove yourself from a private Snapchat story using the mobile app on iPhone, iPad, or Android.
Leaving a Private Snap Story
To leave a private Snap Story, navigate to the Stories tab and find the private Story. Long-press on the Story, select Story Settings, and then Leave Private Story. Tap Leave to confirm. Keep in mind that you can't force an owner to take down a story in which you appear.
Steps
Section 1 of 3:Leaving a Private Story
-
1 Open Snapchat
. The app icon looks like a white ghost on a yellow background that you'll find on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching. The Snapchat camera will open when you open the app. - If you aren't logged into Snapchat, you'll first need to tap LOG IN and enter your email address and password before proceeding.
-
2 Tap the Stories tab. It's the icon of two people at the bottom of your screen, to the right of the default camera tab. A list of stories will then display along the top of your screen. - You can also swipe left to open this tab.[1]
-
3 Long-press on the story you want to leave. The story will have a padlock icon next to its name if it's set as private. -
4 Tap Story Settings. This is in the pop-up menu. -
5 Tap Leave Private Story. It's usually the first option in the menu. -
6 Tap Leave. You'll need to confirm your action before you can actually leave the story. The owner of the private story will not be notified that you have left. - If you don't want to interact with the user anymore, you can mute or block them.

Changing Privacy Settings
-
1 Open the Snapchat app. If you aren't already logged in, do so now. -
2 Tap your profile icon. This is in the top-left corner. If you have a Bitmoji, you'll see it. Your profile page will open. -
3 Tap the cog icon. This is in the top-right corner of the screen. Your settings will open. -
4 Scroll down to "Privacy Controls". This header is about halfway down the page. -
5 Tap View My Story to change who can see your Story. You can set this as Friends or custom. If you don't want all your friends to see your main Story by default, select Custom, and then select the users you want. -
6 Tap Contact Me to change who can contact you. This includes private Snaps and Chats. By default, all your friends can contact you. However, you can select Friends and Contacts to also include your device's contacts. Keep in mind that you must have your phone contacts synced with Snapchat for this to work. -
7 Tap See My Location to disable or enable your location sharing. If this is enabled, users can see your location on the Snap Map. If you don't want this enabled, toggle on Ghost Mode. This will hide your location from your friends. - Alternatively, you can open your device's location settings and disable it for Snapchat.

Troubleshooting
-
1 The private story has no posts yet. If you can't leave by viewing the private story, navigate to the user's profile. Tap the story underneath the Custom Stories header and select Leave Story. -
2 I appear in someone's private story. Currently, there's no way to remove a Snap posted onto someone else's Story. If it contains you, you can try reporting the Snap if it violates any guidelines. Otherwise, you'll need to contact the Story owner directly and ask them to remove it. -
3 How do private stories work? A Snapchat user can approve certain users to view a custom Story. This is called a private story. If you're added to someone's private story, you'll be able to see all Snaps uploaded under this custom story.[2] -
4 I can't find the Leave button. If you don't see a button to leave the story, try finding the story on the user's page. From there, tap the story and then select Leave. - If you still can't leave the private story, make sure your app is updated. Try logging in and out again. If you're still stuck with someone's private story, you can try contacting Snapchat for help.
