You’ll receive alerts through your receiver at intervals of 6 hours, 2 hours, and 30 minutes before this happens. Tapping “OK” on this alert will prompt you to change your sensor, which is a simple and quick process.Follow these four steps to easily replace your sensor:
  1. Take sensor off the body and remove transmitter.
  2. Enter new sensor code.
  3. Insert new sensor and attach transmitter.
  4. Start your new sensor.

1. remove your Dexcom G6 sensor and transmitter:

  • Grab the edge of the adhesive patch, then peel the adhesive and transmitter up and away from your body, similar to the way you’d remove a bandage.
  • To remove the transmitter, push down the lip of the transmitter holder and break open its wide end, which will allow you to slide the transmitter out of the holder.
  • Keep the transmitter to use with your next sensor: Transmitters are reused for three months.

2. enter a new sensor code:

  • Get a new sensor, then enter and confirm its code on your receiver.
  • Tap “Next” on the receiver.

3. insert the new sensor and attach the transmitter:

Be sure to insert the sensor that matches the code you’ve just entered – each sensor has a unique code.

Prepare

Wash and dry your hands.Decide where on your body you want to insert the sensor. Choose someplace that’s:- Different from the sensor site you just used- At least 3 inches from your insulin pump infusion set or your insulin injection site- Not a bony area such as ribs or hipbones- Free of scarring, tattoos, thick hair, or irritated skinClean the skin at the insertion site with rubbing alcohol.

Insert

Being careful not to touch the adhesive, remove both labels from the sensor applicator, exposing the sticky surface.Place the sticky adhesive side of the applicator against your skin at the insertion site.Fold and break off the safety guard on the applicator’s orange button.Press the button to insert the sensor.Remove the applicator.You’ve successfully inserted your Dexcom G6 sensor!

Attach the Dexcom G6 transmitter to the sensor

Clean the transmitter by wiping it with alcohol and letting it dry.Insert the transmitter tab into the slot on your sensor and snap it firmly into place.Rub a finger around the edge of the sensor patch three times to make sure the sensor is secure against your skin.You’ve successfully attached your transmitter!

4. start your new sensor

On your receiver, tap “Next” and then tap “Start Sensor” to begin your sensor warmup.Sensor warmup will take 2 hours to complete: You will not receive readings or alerts during this time.
