While resetting your speaker usually fixes some issues relating to connections, sound quality, and software, it will also reset all your previous Bluetooth pairings as well as any custom settings you may have set up. Troubleshooting Tips to Reset Any JBL Speaker
Turn on your JBL speaker, then press the volume up and play buttons at the same time for 10 seconds. Wait until the status light shuts off, then press the power button for a hard reset. Alternatively, press the play/pause, volume up, and volume down buttons simultaneously.

1 Turn on your JBL. The status light will turn on and a guitar strum will signal that the speaker is powered on.[1]XResearch source
2 Press the Volume Up and Play buttons together. Hold them down together for about 10-20 seconds or until the status light turns off.[2]XResearch source
The JBL Clip 3 and 4, as well as the Flip 3, 4, and 5 all use these buttons to reset.
Release the buttons when the status light turns off.

3 Remove the speaker from the connected device's Bluetooth list. You want to do this so the iPhone, Android, laptop, or other connected device doesn't try to reconnect after it discovers the speaker again.
4 Turn on your JBL speaker again after a few moments. Wait about 30 seconds after the reset to turn your speaker back on. The status light will be flashing to indicate that it's ready to pair.
Once you reset your JBL speaker, re-pair it to use it again.

2 Press the Volume Up and Bluetooth buttons at the same time. On the Charge 4, these buttons are usually right next to each other on the control panel.
Release these buttons after about 10-15 seconds or after the speaker turns off.

The best way to reset the Charge Essential is to hold the Bluetooth and Volume + buttons together. After resetting it, my speaker wouldn't turn back on at first, but when I plugged it in to a power source, it resumed as normal. It was charged before I did this, so I think plugging it in might be a necessary step.
