Have you ever had one of those days where you just can’t get anything right? Maybe you spilled coffee on your shirt, or you stubbed your toe on the way to the bathroom. Well, I have some news for you: even refrigerators have bad days! If your Whirlpool refrigerator isn’t making ice, resetting the ice maker may do the trick. We’ll teach you how to reset a Whirlpool ice maker.
Why is My Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Working?
If you notice that your Whirlpool refrigerator ice maker is not working, check to see if the ice maker is turned off or jammed. You may also need to adjust the freezer temperature. You can also try to reset your Whirlpool ice maker.
How Do I Reset My Whirlpool Ice Maker?
Press the reset button – usually located near the ice maker. If that doesn’t work, adjust the feeler arm, turn it off and on again, or unplug it for five minutes.
Press the Ice Maker Reset Button
Press and hold the Whirlpool ice maker reset button until you hear a beep. Once you hear the beep, stop pressing the button.
Depending on the model, the Whirlpool ice maker reset button is usually near the ice maker. Check above or below the ice tray too. You may need to consult your Owner’s manual if you can’t find it.
Adjust the Feeler Arm
The feeler arm is a small metal rod that tells your fridge when to make ice. It monitors how much ice needs to be made by measuring how full the ice bin is. If it’s in the wrong position, your ice maker won’t work. To fix this, find the feeler arm and move it down until it’s touching the ice cube tray. Then, try running your ice maker again.

Press the On/Off Switch
If adjusting the feeler arm doesn’t work, you may need to press the on/off switch. This switch is usually located near the Whirlpool ice maker reset button, but again, consult your owner’s manual if you can’t find it. Once you’ve found the switch, turn it off and wait a few minutes. Then, turn it back on and see if your ice maker starts working again.
Unplug the Refrigerator
If none of these methods work, you may need to unplug your Whirlpool refrigerator for a few minutes. This is a last resort – make sure to wait at least five minutes before plugging it back in.
