When to reset the Wyze cam?
You should do a factory reset when your Wyze Cam is non-responsive or is behaving incorrectly. Resetting will bring the device to factory settings and you can start all over from the scratch. Before resetting the camera, you should try the oldest trick in the book: powering off the camera. Leave it a few minutes unplugged and try again if the issues were self-solved.
Troubleshooting Wyze before resetting it
Before resetting your Wyze camera, there are a few things you can do to make the camera work properly again. Here are a few things to check:
Check your Wifi
The first thing you should do is to check your Internet/WiFi connection. If your wifi isn’t working correctly or you aren’t receiving a strong enough wifi signal, then resetting your Wyze cam isn’t going to fix your issue. Follow these steps below to fix the WiFi issues:
- Reboot your WiFi router/access point. Turn it off, wait for 1 minute and then power it on again.
- Check your other WiFi devices. If they are connecting to the WiFi, then the issue must be something related to the camera. If using a smartphone, make sure to disable the cellular data.
- Move your Wyze cam to a new location. For example, if your Wyze cam and router are far away, then bring the camera closer and see it works. The more distance, the less internet coverage.
Check the Wyze Status Page
If your WiFi seems to be working correctly, the next step is to check is the Wyze Cam status page. If Wyze’s servers are experiencing issues, then you’ll need to periodically check back until all issues are resolved on their end.
Update the firmware
Sometimes these issues are caused by bad firmware which you need to update to the latest version To check for firmware updates, open the Wyze app on your Android or Apple device.
Select the camera you are experiencing issues with, it will automatically start looking for any firmware updates. If firmware updates are available, it will ask you for permission to start the update procedure. Tap Yes.
If the camera doesn’t prompt you to upgrade, you can check manually by clicking the gear icon > Device Info > Check Update and then Upgrade.
Reinstall the Wyze App
Having the Wyze app uninstalled and then installed again may solve any problems you’re experiencing.
