Let’s face it; nobody’s furniture is all at a perfect 90 degree angle, is it? And so why should your Sims’ furniture be? Here’s how to rotate objects in The Sims 4.

In early renditions of The Sims, there was no way to rotate objects. That meant everything had to be facing one of four directions. It made for strange, stilted-looking interiors and awkward living arrangements. Thankfully, rotating furniture is very easy now in The Sims 4, and so you can have chairs, tables, sofas, beds and more pointing in just about any direction you want.

Rotate objects in The Sims 4 on PC

If you’re playing The Sims 4 on PC or Mac, here’s how to rotate items. You’ll of course need to be in Build Mode to pick up and move the item of furniture you want to rotate. Select the item you want with the left mouse button, then click it again with the right mouse button. Right-clicking allows you to jump to 45 degree angles. You can also use the < and > keys on your keyboard. Stop rotating when you’ve found the right position, and voila.

If you have The Sims 3 camera controls enabled, you can rotate objects by pressing the Alt key on your keyboard and left-clicking your mouse. You can then drag your mouse to rotate the object to its desired position.

(Not sure how to turn on Sims 3 camera mode but like the sound of it? Easy! To enable The Sims 3 Camera, head into the Game Options menu then select Game Camera. In there you’ll see the option to turn on ‘Sims 3 camera’. You can also toggle Sims 3 Camera controls in-game by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Tab.)

Rotate objects on console

If you’re playing The Sims 4 on console, whether it be PlayStation or Xbox, rotating objects is slightly easier. Again, you’ll need to be in Build Mode. From there, select the object you want to rotate. Pressing the left shoulder button (L1/LB) will rotate the item left, and pressing the right shoulder button (R1/RB) will rotate it to the right. Simple!

That’s it; with that tiny bit of knowledge you can rotate objects in The Sims 4 to your heart’s content. No longer does furniture need to be parallel to a wall.
