How To Screenshot On Snapchat Without Them Knowing | Metro News

Snapchat is hugely popular among teens, but it’s not without its annoying features that users have been trying to circumnavigate since it started.
The video and photo messaging app does not allow users to take screenshots of the messages on their screen without alerting the person who sent it out.
It’s a very frustrating feature and one which has bugged Snapchatters who don’t want to seem totally creepy.
Luckily there are ways of getting around the screenshot ban, some trickier than others…
Use someone else’s phone to take a picture of your phone
This is a rudimentary solution – but it’s genius in its simplicity.
If you have a second phone (your friend’s, a family member’s, or your own if you’re boujee) you can simply photograph your own phone screen when the Snap is open.
They don’t even need to have Snapchat. Just make sure you have a steady hand when recording or photographing.

You can then send the picture or video to yourself.
Screenshot, then uninstall
As solutions go, this may seem extreme but it’s foolproof – your contact will not receive a notification at all.
All you need to do is:
- Open the photo in Snapchat and wait for it to load completely
- When it has, turn off cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and screenshot away
- Exit Snapchat and uninstall the app completely
- Restart your phone, reinstall Snapchat and log in
The reason why you have to uninstall the app as well as turn off the internet when you screenshot is that Snapchat will still know you’ve taken shots even if the connection is off.
In those circumstances, Snapchat will still let the person know (just a few minutes later than usual).
Airplane Mode, then clear your cache
Another way to discretely take a screenshot is to put your phone on Airplane Mode before opening the Snap.
Then, screenshot your chosen snap.
Before taking your phone out of Airplane Mode, tap your profile icon in the top left corner of the screen.
In the top right corner of your profile menu, tap the Settings icon, then select Account Actions.
You then need to tap ‘clear cache’ , then ‘clear all’. A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm the action – tap ‘clear’ to confirm.
You can now turn Airplane Mode off.
When you clear your cache, Snapchat won’t remember that you took the screenshot. Therefore, it won’t be able to update the other user’s profile to reflect that you took one.

Simply follow these steps:
- Open the Snap you want to capture
- Access the ‘Control Panel’ by pulling down from the top of the screen
- Swipe, locate, and select the ‘Screen recorder’ function
- Tap ‘Record’
- A countdown begins, then you have captured the image of the Snap to your phone. Tap the ‘Stop’ icon to end the recording
The only time you can’t initiate a screen recording is when you’re in the middle of viewing a Snap.
Unfortunately, this method doesn’t work for iPhones – the other user will still receive a notification. iPhone users also get notifications if the other person screenshots during a FaceTime call.
Older Androids do not have the screen recorder feature. You can download a third-party screen recording app, but many users have reported that the Snap sender still received a notification.
