SUPPLIES FOR CHALKBOARD SEASONING

  • Chalkboard
  • Black Chalkboard paint – I use Rust-oleum Chalkboard Paint
  • Paint brush or roller
  • Chalk
  • Wet rag

STEPS FOR CHALKBOARD SEASONING

Step 1) Tape off any area that needs taping. Use a roller or paint brush and paint 1-2 coats of chalkboard paint or you can use chalkboard spray paint as well. Per chalkboard paint instructions allow the paint to dry 24 hours before adding chalk.

Step 2) Using the long side of a piece of chalk rub the chalk horizontal on the chalkboard surface. If the chalkboard surface is on wood be careful rubbing chalk against the grain it can leave what looks like scratch marks from the chalk. Once the entire board is covered in chalk take a wet rag and wipe the rubbed chalk off. I usually wipe the chalk off twice. Now the chalkboard is ready to be used. Before you use that chalkboard make sure it is seasoned right.
