Hammock chairs are unique sources of comfort and style, and come in a wide assortment of patterns, designs, colors, and sizes. Once you've found the perfect hammock chair, the next task is to determine where to hang it.

This article will help you find the best method for hanging your new chair so you can kick back and relax.

The 3 Different Ways to Hang a Hammock Chair Outside

Hanging a hammock chair doesn't take an engineering degree (thankfully) as long as you have (or can borrow) a few tools, you should be able to hang the chair up in no time!

There are a few different options for hanging the hammock chair outdoors including from a tree, a porch ceiling, or a stand.

How to Hang a Hammock Chair from a Tree

One of the easiest (and least expensive) ways to hang a hammock chair is to get at least 7-15 feet of rope to hang the hammock on the branch of the tree.

1. Look for a mature hardwood tree. According to arboristnow.com, a species like an oak, ash, or beech tree will work well, and use a thicker branch that is at least 6-8 inches thick and 6-8 feet above the ground.
2. Loop the rope around the tree at least twice to create 2 hanging points to evenly distribute the weight.
3. Thread the rope through the ends of the hammock chair loop or hanging mechanism, slide the loop up while keeping the rope tight and finish with 2 half-inch knots right below the branch.

If knot tying isn't something that comes naturally to you, ordering a set of hammock tree straps or a kit for hanging a hammock chair is always another option!

Tree straps come with loops or even rings already attached and are long enough to loop it around the branch with no problems. Just attach an S-hook or large carabiner (ensure it has the proper weight capacity) to hang your chair from.

How to Hang a Hammock Chair from a Porch Ceiling

Hammock chairs are also comfortable when hung from the ceiling. To hang the chair from porch ceiling, you'll need some tools. These include:

1. A stud finder
2. Pencil
3. 3/8" x 4" eye bolt screw
4. A drill with drill bit
5. An S-hook and a spring or swivel (Please note, you could also purchase a hammock chair hanging kit or ropes to attach to the S-hook instead of a spring or swivel.)

Once you have the tools, follow these steps to installing the chair:

1. Choose an area that allows ample space for the chair to move around, gently spin and sway. This would be about 6 feet of vertical space and 3 feet all around the chair. Also, make sure that the chair won't be blocking or bumping into anything nearby.
2. Locate the ceiling joist with a stud finder. Ceiling joists tend to be 16 or 24 inches apart, so once you find one, it shouldn't be too difficult to locate another one if that location is too close to something.
3. Once you have found a stud that will work, mark both sides of it with your pencil, then locate the center where you will use the drill.
4. Drill a pilot hole into the center mark for the eye bolt screw. Make sure the drill bit is smaller than the eye screw bolt width. The pilot hole should be around 2-3 inches deep.
5. Insert the eye bolt screw into the hole you drilled. The screw should be long enough to twist at least 2-3 inches into the ceiling. The screw bolt's eye ring should touch the ceiling. If it becomes hard to get the screw all the way in, place a screwdriver into the head of the eye bolt and use that to turn it all the way.
6. Next, link the S-hook through the eye bolt ring and attach the swivel, spring or chair hanging kit to the S-hook and finish by attaching the chair.

To finish, test the chair by gradually adding weight to it. Start with 50 pounds of weights, cans, or books. If it holds that, then slowly sit in the chair with your feet firmly on the ground until it is supporting your weight.

Once you are assured it will hold, it is time to relax in the chair!

How to Hang a Hammock Chair without a Tree

Use a freestanding hammock chair stand.

This method is the easiest and most renter-friendly way to hang your new hammock chair. They come in a variety of styles such as a C-style chair stand, stands for egg style chairs, and height-adjustable hanging hammock chair stands.

These stands can be used indoors or outdoors so you always have a place to hang your chair.

Whether you choose to hang your new hammock chair outside from a tree, from a porch ceiling or you hang the hammock chair without a tree on a stand, you will end up with an oasis of relaxion to spend your free days with books, or simply napping and enjoying the great outdoors!
