How To See Chunk Borders In Minecraft - Pro Game Guides

Chunks in Minecraft are 16x16 collections of blocks that extend from the bedrock layer up to the limit of the skybox. They’re used in Minecraft to generate individual areas of the world in bite-sized chunks, hence the name. In more advanced builds such as Raid Farms or Slime Farms, you’ll need to know the confines of a chunk before you start the project.

Luckily it’s super easy to view chunks. All you have to do is press F3 + the G Key together. This will bring up the chunk viewer and flash a small debug notice on the screen.

Now you can view chunks! A chunk's borders are shown by a yellow line. More distant borders can be seen in blue and red. This mesh interface will allow you to be more exact in your building and construction, and can save you a lot of time.

Because you know a chunk is 16x16, you’ll be able to quickly measure distances. But most importantly, chunks control how and when things spawn. If you build raid farms or really any mob farm, you’ll be able to better control how and when things spawn using the chunk viewer. Additionally, in the construction of a slime farm, you’ll most likely mine out an entire chunk for the base of the farm.

Chunks are also generated as you travel across the world. The closer to your spawn and current location, chunks are already generated and ready. As you travel further away, they’ll generate for the first time. Knowing about chunks can really expand you in-game knowledge of Minecraft!
