Basically, Direct Message Requests are messages that you may receive from someone that you don’t follow on your Instagram account. Thus, the direct message would automatically appear under requests until your permission is given manually. Only then would they be allowed to continue having a two-way conversation with you. But the problem that has arisen recently is that many have stated that they don’t know where the Instagram message request is located and how to open it? Therefore, you would require us to help you see your message requests from someone else.

- The three tabs are:
- Chats – “Chats” lists the direct messages from your followers or people you follow and previously messaged.
- Rooms – “Rooms” is a new Instagram App Addition lists group or individual chat rooms that have been created by users to have a video chat.
- Request – “Request” Shows the number of people who wish to request your permission to send you an Instagram Message. Like “6 Requests”.

- Tap on the “Request” tab in the menu under your username.

- Another Inbox will open. Tap on one of the requests from the list of messages in the message requests’ inbox.
- You’ll see a profile image of the person’s Instagram account, Instagram name, username identification, number of followers and posts, a prompt with “You don’t follow each other on Instagram”, a “View Profile” Tab, and their message.
- Here, if you want you can select to view the person’s profile and find out who has sent you the message by clicking on the “View Profile” Tab or move on to see the next prompt in the block.
- You will see a block under the message requests with a message stating “(The Users Name) wants to send you a message”, then the number of followers and posts in the user’s account and another prompt stating: “Do you want to let (The Users Name) send you messages from now on? They’ll only know you’ve seen their request if you choose to Accept”
- Then under the same prompt and block segment, you’ll see a menu bar. In the menu bar you will see three choices to choose from:
- Block – To Block the user who has sent you the message request.
- Delete – To Delete the message request permanently from your inbox.
- Accept – To accept the person’s message request and allow them to send you messages and for you to receive them in your Direct Message Inbox.
- Next, depending on your preference choose to block, delete, or accept the message requests.
Note: If you choose to “Accept” their message requests, a few changes would be applied by the Instagram app automatically:
- The person will see that you have “seen” the message requests whether you choose to respond or not after accepting the request. Through a prompt like: “Seen 1 M Ago”
- The message request will move to your Direct Message Inbox.
- Even if you delete the message after accepting their message request, you’ll still see their message in your general Direct Message Inbox if they choose to send you messages again.

What If You Can’t See Any Message Requests? How To See Message Requests On Instagram Then?
The problem with Direct Message Requests is that you’ll see it when it pops up as a “notification” on your Direct Messages after someone messages you. But after you have checked and responded to the message requests you WON’T see the message request inbox or prompt anymore in your general Instagram Direct Message inbox. So where has it gone and how can you see the message requests on your Instagram profile account.
Well, there’s a good reason for that. The message requests will only pop up if you have pending requests and messages from people who wish to message your account. If you have responded to all your message requests by either; blocking, deleting, or accepting the requests and you don’t have any pending requests you won’t find the prompt or the inbox tab in your direct messages. So, do stop the search, and don’t worry. The Instagram Message Request Inbox will pop back up once you have a message request. Once it appears you can then see your message requests in your inbox on Instagram by following the step-by-step guide above.
