Do you need to send a text on your iPhone that's a bit too complicated to type out? Send an audio message instead! This wikiHow article will teach you two simple ways to send an audio message on your iPhone: Using the Messages app and sharing a voice memo.
Things You Should Know
- Open a text conversation in the Messages app and tap the blue-and-white Audio Messages icon.
- Tap and hold the microphone as you speak.
- When you lift your finger from the screen, your audio message will be sent automatically.
Steps
Method 1 Method 1 of 2:Using iMessage (Messages)
-
1 Tap a conversation in the Messages app. Doing so will open your conversation. - If you can't find the conversation you need, swipe down on this screen and then type your contact's name into the Search bar at the top of the screen.
- You can tap the box with a pencil icon in the top right corner of the screen to create a new message.
- If you're already in a conversation with someone, you'll have to tap the Back button in the top left corner of the screen to view the "Messages" page.
-
2 Tap the Audio Messages icon. It's the blue icon with white soundwave lines just below the typing area. A red microphone icon will appear. Advertisement -
3 Tap and hold the microphone as you speak. Continue holding your finger to the icon until you're ready to send your message. As soon as you lift your finger from the screen, your audio message will be sent. - This will only work when sending a message to another person who uses iMessage. You won't be able to send audio messages to Android users.

3 Tap the red stop button when you're finished. Doing so will end the recording. You'll now see your most recent recording at the top of the "All Recordings" list. -
4 Tap the three horizontal dots on the recording. You'll see this icon to the right of the recording's name. A menu will expand. -
5 Tap Share. It's the second option on the menu. Your iPhone's sharing menu will appear. -
6 Tap Messages. This option will open a new message template in the Messages app. -
7 Enter the recipient into the "To" field. You can start typing a contact's name, or tap + to select a contact from your Contacts list. -
