Want to avoid nicks, razor burn and skin irritation when shaving your legs? We’ve put together simple shaving tips to keep in mind. Though knowing how to properly shave your legs may seem rather straightforward, there are key steps to take to minimize the chances of skin irritation. Here are simple tips to keep in mind.
- Step 1
- Step 2
- Step 3
- Step 4
- Step 5
Use a sharp razor when shaving
If your razor blade pulls at your body hair or feels rough on your skin while shaving, it’s time for a replacement. Using a dull blade to shave increases the chances of getting nicked, razor burn and irritation.
Step 2Hydrate your skin before shaving your legs
If your legs are not well-hydrated the hair will be more difficult to cut, increasing chances of irritating your skin, nicks and razor burn. Shaving dry hair may even dull down your blade faster. Do so by soaking your legs in a a warm bath or shower for at least 3-5 minutes.
Step 3Apply shaving gel
After soaking, lather shaving gel and smooth evenly over your legs. Using shave gel maintains moisture and helps the razor blade glide more easily across your skin. You also see where you still need to shave so you can avoid having to re-shave over any areas. The Venus Satin Care Ultra Sensitive Women's Shave Gel will help lock in moisture and give you a clean shave.
Step 4Shave in long, steady strokes
You do not have to press hard on your razor when shaving as long your blade is clean and sharp. Shave in long, steady strokes.
Shave carefully around bonier areas, such as ankles and knees, to avoid accidentally getting nicked. And when shaving your knees, try bending your leg to better shave the front of your knee cap, and then straighten your leg when shaving behind.
Stop and rinse off your razor blade after every stroke to wash away shave gel residue and body hair. And, take your time to avoid nicks and cuts.
Step 5Moisturize your legs after you shave
When satisfied with your shave, rinse off your legs, pat your skin dry with a towel and apply a moisturizing lotion or oil. This will help prevent skin irritation post-shave and keep your legs hydrated.
