SO...Im a ftm and I feel really dumb but I was trying out my pump last night for the first time while I was reclining in the recliner, just trying to get a feel of how I would position flanges etc after baby is born and I start pumping. I'm assuming I cannot recline while breastfeeding. I'm going to have to lean forward so the milk drains in the bottles ? What kind of chair do yall use that is comfortable ?

PS-I have a medela pump in style double pump

i pump on the couch or in a desk chair at work or sitting on the floor other places. i dont lean back at all, milk always leaks out somehow, i always sit straight on lean forward a little. to use one hand i hold the left shield with my leg forearm and hold the right shield with my left hand.

hope that helps! good luck and congrats

oh and another thing i learned the hard way, when you take the shields off when you're done pumping always lean forward otherwise the milk trapped in the shield drips everywhere. use gravity as much as you can :)

Excited to start huh? ;) I always sit striaght or slightly forward. Most of the time I'm so tired that I do what brisue said and hold the shields with one hand and I put my head down on my other arm. So I guess I'm actually leaning forward more often - - trying to rest ;P

  • mMrs Fox1 Posted 07-24-12I sit in a chair and use my shirt to help hold the slides in place. It helps so i have my hands free to do other things.
  • member avatarthewizard0f0z Posted 07-24-12If you buy the pumpin pal shields, you wouldn't have to lean as far forward. They fit inside your shields. It hard to explain...look it up. Good luck!

If you are pumping both breasts at the same time, I found it helpful to get a hands free bra. It has holes in it to put the shields. This way you don't have to hold them and you can multitask :)

Definitely lean forward a little when taking the shields off. The milk always seems to drip out.

I sit slightly forward. I took a cheap sports bra and cut holes large enough for the flanges to just fit thru so I can pump hands free. I also took one bra and split it up the front and serged the edges and put snaps on it so it could be easy on and off when I was at work.

I also keep a burp rag under my breasts to keep my pants from getting dripped on.

Thanks all. Do you think it is worth $40 to buy a hands free pumping bra ?
