How To Soft Reset Your GameBy Hector MadrigalMichael KoczwaraaRowlingStone+35.1k moreUpdated: Nov 4, 2016 7:23am UTC

From time to time you may hear the term "Soft Reset." This means resetting your game to the main menu without pressing the power button. Pressing the power button repeatedly may damage a game or the system's hardware. Reset the game by pressing L+R+START or L+R+SELECT.

Why reset your game so much? Some players try to obtain Pokemon with a specific nature or stats, like the Pokemon from Professor Birch at the start of the game. Other players may accidentally cause a Legendary Pokemon to faint. Simply save before interacting with the Pokemon, then perform the Soft Reset if you fail.
