help! i made buttercream with 3 parts butter and 1 part shortening plus a little whipping cream. i got too tired after making the buttercream, so i refrigerated it overnight, and now the buttercream is dried and crumbly! do i dump out the whole batch or is there a way to soften up the cold buttercream to the consistency it was before refrigeration? can i microwave it?for future references, does my buttercream need refrigeration???

You can microwave it for a few seconds but be very very careful or it will literally melt. Best to just let it sit out for a little while and come to room temp. Then you will be able to stir it and get the consistancy you are looking for.
