How to sound like a horse? February 3, 2012 10:14 AM Subscribe My friend is buying me a horse mask as a present but I can't make a horse sound (neigh? whinney?) at all. They whicker when they're friendly, they squeal like pigs when they're angry, and if you turn barn horses out on a cool morning they race off bucking and kicking ... and farting. I am not suggesting that you run around kicking at people and farting, unless you have that kind of sense of humor. They also... I guess motorboat with their lips but that may not be effective with a mask. You might also want to wear hard shoes so you can stamp. And maybe work up a tail you can swish. Whickcer is also a term than means the same thing whinny means. Learn something new every day... And to answer the question, google horse sounds, or check YouTube for horse videos. (Don't watch this or you'll feel instantly inadequate.)posted by MegoSteve at 3:55 PM on February 3, 2012 [1 favorite] I do a pretty good whicker (the only impersonation/sound effect I can do) and while these things are kinda hopeless to describe in words, it involves both motorboating with the lips AND blowing out through both the mouth and the nose simultaneously while making a kind of something's-caught-in-the-back-of-my-throat noise (a little like the theatrical "I'm getting ready to spit on you" noise).
