How To Spawn A Blue Axolotl In Every Minecraft ... - Screen Rant

The Blue Axolotl in Minecraft is one of the rarest aquatic mobs and requires a lot of patience to spawn. Initially inspired by the Water-type Mudkip from Pokémon, these creatures make great companions as they attack most hostile underwater mobs.

By collecting an army of them, Axolotls could provide lots of support, potentially aiding you in Ocean Monument raids or defending your base from Drowned. This passive mob has a 1 in 1200 (approximately 0.083%) chance of being born when you attempt to breed them, making it one of the most frustratingly time-consuming endeavors.

Since Axolotls have such a low spawn rate, there are more efficient ways to spawn the blue variant. While this method utilizes cheats, the console command can significantly ease the process. This method works on both Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions.

Remember that enabling the Console Command will disable achievements on both the PC and Consoles.

Where To Find Axolotls In Minecraft

They Spawn In Lush Cave Biomes

Axolotls exclusively spawn in Lush Caves within water above Clay blocks. These caves usually thrive underground below biomes with high humidity. They are commonly found beneath Dark Forests, Jungles, Old Growth Taigas, and Wooded Badla

The mob attacks fish, squid, downed, and guardians, making them really useful in water exploration and fighting. They also give players Regeneration as a passive buff.

Keep an eye out for an Azalea tree in any of these biomes, indicating that a Lush Cave is somewhere below the surface.

Axolotls only naturally spawn in four colors: pink, brown, gold, and cyan. This means that the rare blue Axolotl does not spawn within any Minecraft world and is only available as an offspring upon breeding two of the four types of Axolotls. The blue mutation is entirely cosmetic and doesn't behave any differently or have different stats from the other colors.

While heading to these areas is the best way to find Axolotls in Minecraft, Java, and Bedrock both have console command options to expedite getting the blue variant.

Cheats for all Minecraft versions can be enabled within the world creation screen. Alternatively, those who've already spawned into a world seed can open their settings and activate cheats by searching for "Cheats" on the menu screen and ensuring that they're toggled 'on.'

PC players using the Java Edition of Minecraft can open the command console by hitting the "/" key. This will allow you to add any cheat command in Minecraft. The command for spawning the Blue Axolotl is:

"/summon minecraft:axolotl ~ ~ ~ {Variant:4}."

There is a chance that the Axolotl will not spawn right in front of you. In that case, look around with the camera view to find the mob.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition

For Minecraft Bedrock Edition, you can add a Blue Axolotl to their world by opening Chat and Commands and inputting:

"/summon axolotl ~ ~ ~ minecraft:entity_born."

Within a few short moments, a Blue Axolotl should successfully appear.

Additionally, players using either platform must remember that Axolotls need water to thrive and will not survive for longer than five minutes on dry land. Therefore, ensure you are spawning the cuddly creature near a body of water for the Blue Axolotl to swim in.

How To Breed Blue Axolotls

For Those Who Prefer Not To Use Cheats

Instead of using Cheats, players can legitimately gain in-game achievements by conventionally breeding Axolotls in Minecraft and hopefully spawning a blue one as a result. As mentioned, you cannot come across Blue Axolotls naturally. To spawn one via breeding, you will need at least a pair of Axolotls (of any color) to get started.

To catch an Axolotl, click on one that is equipped with a water bucket. Doing so will tame the Axolotl, ensuring it won't despawn even if you release it.

Once you have two Axolotls, you can breed them by feeding them a bucket of tropical fish. Note that it must specifically be a bucket, not an individual or a dead fish. Be careful when feeding, because it's easy to misclick and release the fish instead! For this reason, it's best to set up a breeding area near a convenient supply of tropical fish, like a Mangrove Swamp.

The resulting baby Axolotl will almost always inherit the color of one of its parents. However, there's a 1/1200 chance that the offspring will be a rare Blue Axolotl. That might mean you have to breed the Axolotls 1,200 times before you get a blue one!

Luckily, once you get at least one blue Axolotl in Minecraft, breeding will become easier. You can continue breeding the blue one with any other colored Axolotl to increase your chances of obtaining more until you have your desired amount.
