How to take blinds down
You’ll rarely need to take down your blinds. However, removing your window dressing every so often to do a deep clean can give them a new lease of life – and you might want to replace them with a new design once in a while. Removing blinds from their brackets isn’t rocket science, and it only takes a few minutes with these simple methods for the main types of blinds.
How to remove roller blinds
1. Roll up the roller blindOpen your roller blinds up fully until they’re securely in place at the top of your window. Remove all obstacles and ornaments from your window sill. This will make it easier to lift the blinds from the brackets and avoid damage.
2. Uninstall the child safety clipIf you have a child safety clip installed, remove the screw holding it in place with a screwdriver. Pull the clip away from the wall to release the blind cord.
3. Identify your bracket typeThe brackets of your roller blinds will either be a pin or a wheel. A pin is located inside the blind casting on the opposite side to your cord and pushes against the bracket. If you have a plastic wheel, this should be situated in the top corner of your blind, on the opposite side to the cord, which you’ll be able to feel underneath the bracket.
4. Release the blinds from the bracketPush and lift your blind casting against the pin on the opposing side to release it from the bracket. For a plastic wheel, turn this anticlockwise until you hear the wheel click, then gently pull the blind free from the bracket.

How to remove Venetian blinds

1. Open and raise the blindsOpen up the slats, so they sit horizontally, then pull your blinds all the way up – so they sit securely at the top of the window. Be sure to remove any obstacles which may be knocked over or damaged when you pull the blind free.
2. Free one side of the blindsFind the brackets on each side of the blind panel. Selecting one bracket, firmly hold the bottom of the blind in one hand, then push the blind against the bracket with the other. As you put pressure on the bracket, twist downwards until the blinds become free.
3. Repeat on the other sideRepeat this process on the opposite side and then gently pull the blind away from the window.
How to remove vertical blinds
1. Open up the blindsRotate the blades in a half-open position and free the window area of any clutter.
2. Remove each bladeOpen the clip located at the top of each individual blade, then push each blade upwards and twist to free it. Repeat until each blade is removed.
3. Release the trackLocate the brackets at the back of the panelling. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the bracket, then carefully twist and release. Do the same on the other side and lightly pull the panelling away the track from the window.

How to remove Roman blinds

1. Close the blindsRoll up your blinds so they’re sitting securely at the top of your window. Clear away anything surround your blinds so you can easily access the area.
