How To Turn On Battery Percentage On The IPhone 12 | IParts4U Blog

With iPhone mobiles, it’s important to know the performance of your battery, given the cost of replacement batteries. If you have been using older iPhone models (without Face ID) and recently upgraded to an iPhone 12, you may have noticed that your new phone is not displaying the iPhone battery percentage in the status bar. All models featuring Face ID have a wide notch at the top, meaning they lack enough room to display the battery percentage. Unlike earlier models with Touch ID, like iPhone 8, the iPhone 12 does not have a feature to turn on the battery percentage icon in the status bar. However, there several ways of checking the remaining amount of battery on your device. Read on to learn more!

What Is a Battery Percentage Indicator on an iPhone and why is it useful

A battery percentage indicator on an iPhone is an icon that indicates the remaining amount of battery power on your mobile as a percentage. Most iPhones have this icon in the status bar to enable users to track their battery usage without exiting the apps in use. This way, one can easily identify when to stop using a power-intensive app and when to recharge the phone.

How to Show Battery Percentage on an iPhone 12

There are several ways of turning on the iPhone 12 battery percentage indicator, as explained below.

1.Swipe to View the Battery Percentage

You can open the control centre to see the battery indicator, irrespective of the app you are using. Swipe down from the top right corner of your phone, and the battery icon will automatically show next to the battery icon. The advantage of this method is that it is simple and fast, plus you can see your phone’s battery status even when it is locked. However, you have to allow access in settings to check the percentage when the phone is locked. To do so, go to Settings >Face ID & Passcode and turn on the toggle for “Control Centre” in the “Allow access when locked” section.

2.Add a Battery Widget

Thanks to the all-new widgets in iOS 14, users can now see their battery percentages right on the home screen. In addition to your phone, the widget helps you monitor the battery levels of all the connected Bluetooth devices. Below are the steps to follow to add a battery widget to your iPhone 12.

  • Step 1: Tap and hold an empty area on your phone’s home screen
  • Step 2: Tap the + icon at the top-left corner of the screen.
  • Step 3: Tap the Batteries widget in the Search Widgets section.
  • Step 4: Choose your preferred widget size from the available options (small, medium or large). Consider choosing the medium or large widget if you have other devices connected and want to track their battery percentages as well.
  • Step 5: Drag and drop the widget wherever you want or tap on “Add Widget” to drop it.

This method is perfect if you want to permanently show the battery percentage on your iPhone 12. Alternatively, users who don’t want to add a dedicated battery widget can swipe left-to-right on the Home screen to display the Today View, which contains the various Apple app widgets, including the battery widgets showing the current battery percentages. You may need to scroll down to find the battery widget in this view, but you can drag it to the top to make it more visible.

3. Ask Siri

Though this is not the most feasible option, it can be fun getting the battery percentage from Siri if you love using the assistant. First, you need to activate Siri by either saying “Hey Siri” or Long-pressing the Side button on the right side of your phone. Once you have activated the assistant, you can use any of the voice commands below or anything else that makes sense.

  • How much battery do I have left?
  • What is my battery percentage?
  • Battery remaining?
  • Percentage of battery?

Siri can read out the battery status or display it as text.

4. Start Charging Your Phone

By simply connecting your iPhone 12 to a charging cable or a wireless charger, you can view the charging percentage on the screen. However, you must ensure that the phone is locked for this method to work. Alternatively, you can leave the phone to charge for a few minutes and wake up the screen. The current “Charged” level will appear briefly before it returns to date. The battery percentage also shows when you disconnect your iPhone 12 from the charger.

5. Use Third-Party Apps

If none of the above options suits you, you can go for any of the third-party apps available in the app store. Most of these apps will show your iPhone’s current battery percentage in the app or in a widget. The advantage of using third-party apps to track your battery usage is that they show battery performance in detail. You can easily identify other parameters that may not be available in the other options, like battery voltage, temperature and usage patterns. Some apps also provide tips on improving your iPhone’s battery life based on your usage patterns.
