Say that you want to show 3 squared, 32

• In Pages -

Enter the numbers 32

Highlight the 2

Go to the Format menu, Font > Baseline > Superscript

This will raise the 2 and make it smaller

If you want to make the 2 appear higher, select it, the go to the Format menu > Font > Baseline > Raise

• In Mail -

In a message window, enter the numbers 32

Highlight the number 2

Go to the Edit menu and select Special Characters...

In the Character screen, in the lower right should be displayed variants for the number 2 (which is why you highlighted the 2 before going here). Double-click the appropriate one, probably the one in the upper right of the array offered.

This should convert the highlight 2 in the message to a superscript 2.

In Pages you can also superscript anything by selecting the character and going to Format > Font > Baseline

The characters menu that is activated with "ctrl+cmd+space" allows access to a "superscript 2" or square root symbol (²).

Check if the "Digits — All" category isn't in the left-hand column, click the gear icon, then select this category — adding it to the list.

This category is having square root symbol (²)....Then you can add the this, in "Digits — All", to Favorites, so you can access it a little more quickly.

Just double click it to place into your text.
