Since you are reading this you’re probably looking for a solution for a really stupid situation. The seatbelt in your car is twisted around and you don’t know how to get it back into its original state. Well, fear not, I have good news for you: There is actually a pretty simple solution to it.

Identify the real reason of your problem

If you think your seatbelt is twisted there could actually be two different causes for it:

  1. If your seatbelt has some kind of twist and has a helix like form when it is loose, your seatbelt is really twisted.
  2. If your seatbelt is completely straight when loose, you just have your buckle on the wrong side.

How to reverse a seatbelt buckle that is on “backwards”

  1. Pull your seatbelt completely down until its end and keep it like that
  2. Pull the buckle right to the top of the seatbelt and hold it there
  3. Fold the seatbelt below the buckle with a long diagonal folding (not within the buckle but on the seatbelt underneath it)
  4. Pull the buckle down over the folded seatbelt. You will need a little force to get it over

How to turn an actually twisted seatbelt

  1. Pull your seatbelt completely down until its end and keep it like that
  2. Fold the seatbelt right on top with a long diagonal folding
  3. Hold the folding but let loose of the seatbelt itself and “feed” it into the wall bracket. You will need a little force to get it in but you should be able to get it after a little trying.

  4. After trying to force my buckle around for 5 minutes and possibly almost ripping the belt, I tried this technique. Took less than 30 seconds and almost no effort. Thanks a lot!

  8. But should the fold be lefthanded or right handed?

    I’ve a 3 rotation helix by the looks of it.
