How To Watch 'Cry Macho' On HBO Max For Less Than $8 - IndieWire

Clint Eastwood is back in the saddle (and behind the camera) for “Cry Macho,” a Western about a washed-up horse breeder who agrees to kidnap a child for his former boss. The film premiered in movie theaters on Friday, but for those who want to watch from home, “Cry Macho” is also streaming exclusively on HBO Max for the next 31 days.
Eastwood, 91, directed and produced the film in addition to playing the lead role. He first received the story nearly 40 years ago, but the timing wasn’t right, the Oscar winner said in an interview with Parade magazine. “I knew the character needed some mileage on him, so I turned it down,” he revealed. “I remember suggesting that Robert Mitchum would be good for it. Then it just kind of hung there. And every other year I’d go, ‘Whatever happened to that?’”

Set in 1979, “Cry Macho” centers around Mike Milo (Eastwood), a onetime horse breeder and former rodeo winner, whose ex-boss Howard Polk (Dwight Yoakam) hires him to transport Polk’s young son, Rafo (Eduardo Minett), from Mexico to Texas. The trek leads the unlikely duo on a wild journey through the backroads.
Natalia Traven, Fernanda Urrejola, and Horacio Garcia-Rojas also star in the film, which was adapted from a screenplay by Nick Schenk and the late N. Richard Nash (based on Nash’s 1975 novel by the same name).
