OWN’s “Queen Sugar’s” seventh and final season of the Ava DuVernay-created original drama series will premiere tonight, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. The series which originally debuted in 2016, follows the lives of three Bordelon family siblings brought together by the death of their father and the future of the family’s Louisiana-based farm.
While “Queen Sugar” will premiere on OWN, those who have cut the cable cords will be able to stream the show live on streaming services Philo (free trial) or FuboTV (free trial).
The final season has a total of thirteen episodes. DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey served as executive producers for the series, which was based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Natalie Baszile. Throughout its seven-seasons, Queen Sugar featured an all female directing staff, with more than three dozen women directors working on the series during its entire 88-episode run, according to the network.
About the show
According to OWN’s official synopsis, ‘’“Queen Sugar” tells the story of the estranged Bordelon siblings in Louisiana. At the center of the family are Nova, a journalist and activist; Charley, the wife and manager of an NBA player; and formerly incarcerated father Ralph Angel, who is searching for redemption. Following a tragedy in the family, the siblings must put their complicated lives aside so that they can come together to run the clan’s struggling sugar cane farm. Also involved in the farm are Aunt Violet and family friend Remy Newell.”
