Description[edit | edit source]

Humphreys County was named for Judge (and future Congressman) Parry Wayne Humphreys. The county is located in the northwestern area of the state.[3]

Courthouse burned in 1876 and 1898. Only the land records are complete. Land records from 1809, marriage records from 1861 and probate records from 1838.[4]

  • From 1788 to 1796 people living in what is now Humphreys County were in extinct Tennessee. Their records for that period are now found in Robertson.[7]
