When your husky is getting pregnant, you would want to know that. This will help you to prepare for the birth and get ready to dog’s changes. There are some symptoms which signalize that you favorite pet is pregnant:

Pregnancy Duration

Siberian huskies are pregnant for approximately 63 days. Sometimes pregnancy duration may be longer or shorter: plus or minus five days.

Your Siberian husky will need special medical care as puppies are growing inside. The vet will check if the pregnancy goes in a right way and give some advices. It is also a good idea to study your husky’s anatomy: by doing this you will make sure that your dog will have healthy birth.

Length of Husky’s Pregnancy

Siberian husky’s pregnancy consists of four stages. The first stage takes three weeks. During this period of time you will not notice any visible changes. The only two things which may appear are fatigue and loss of appetite.

The next two weeks will be accompanied by weight gain and enlargement of nipples.

During the third stage husky’s pregnancy becomes visible: its body, especially womb, becomes bigger and the dog starts producing the milk. Speaking about the length, the third stage continues almost until labor.

The last stage is the shortest one and may take just several days. Husky starts looking for a place to rest and give birth.

Advice! Check husky’s body temperature in order to identify when it is about to pup. You will notice significant drop in temperature.

When Your Husky is Pregnant

When your pet is pregnant it is a good idea to follow special calendar starting with the date when dogs were mated. You can write every week all the changes which happen to your dog.

If you want to establish husky’s timeline, you can use ultrasounds and x-rays. For example, ultrasound will help you when you don’t know at what pregnancy stage your dog is. Furthermore, it will let you know the health of future puppies.

X-rays are recommended only after 50 days but not later than 55 days of pregnancy. They are safe for husky and its puppies.

When you think that you dog is pregnant it would be better to visit your vet. He will help you to check dog’s health and tell when husky will be whelping. Sometimes there can be some invisible health problems which you may not notice, that’s why making an appointment is very important.

It is also very essential to give the same care to the dog as usually. That means that husky shouldn’t get extra brushing (daily brushing is enough), bathing or feeding. In addition, try to limit your husky’s contact with other dogs.
