Bortedet View Profile View Posts 29 Sep, 2021 @ 10:10am I'm finding this... a bit boring? Will it get better? I'm around 5 hours in, on chapter 2, fought the boss who likes to drop mines at your feet. So far the gameplay itself is too simple but some puzzles make it fun even though they are too few and far between... Dialogue slows down the pace to a crawl for me so I can't say the narrative makes it worth it. Music was pretty good at first but became too repetitive at this point. I appreciate the art style a lot but if the gameplay and the pacing are not going to get better I will not be enjoying the rest... Will they get better? Should I soldier on? 1 Apparently this is it. The formula remains unchanged till the end, and chapter 3 is supposed to have the most dialogue/cutscene esque experience. Its mostly a narrative focused game with a lot of cutscenes and filler in between. If you enjoy the story, you will get your money's worth. Well if not, then ney. #1

29 Sep, 2021 @ 10:19am the narrative will get longer actually , the puzzles become a bit more tedious , imo if u r not enjoying then why play it? i myself would give it 6/10 just coz of long long dialogues and some pointless evens and characters #2

29 Sep, 2021 @ 9:05pm This has become a common question. I am disappointed by the fact that it doesn't get better, if anything it gets worse. I was really thinking the game has one of those long intros but eventually opens up. Like FF7, I personally love the long first part, but it it never opens up its a let down. #6

3 Oct, 2021 @ 10:34am You think the story is bad and drawn out. Wait until Monkollywood and Ester City. Holy crap it's awful how they've artificially stretched the story out with absolute garbage filler. #7

4 Oct, 2021 @ 11:39pm I'm somewhere in Chapter 3, probably fairly close to the end of it, and while the setting is a bit better than Chapter 2, in no other way has the game improved. The dialogue and cutscenes are still obscenely long and drawn-out, the combat is still simplistic, and everything still feels completely pointless. And hearing that the game only gets worse towards the end has pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for this game. So far I've been forcing myself to keep playing it, half in the hope that it gets better and half in the desire not to have wasted my money at buying this full price, but.... yeah, I just can't keep going on much further. I've given the game more enough time to change, and it hasn't. It's clear the devs just wanted to make an anime, and that gameplay was not a priority for them. Too bad. The art style is truly gorgeous and immersive, but in every other regard they failed. Last edited by Gerfreckle; 4 Oct, 2021 @ 11:53pm #10

5 Oct, 2021 @ 8:28am I just finished chapter 5 a while ago. The game comes to a screeching halt after chapter 2. Chapter 3, while having the most story content, has so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥ backtracking and pointless quests. Its really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious. I'm still enjoying the game but chapter 3 definitely dropped the game to a 6/10 from a 8/10. #11

It took 10 hours for Death Stranding to click for me for instance but after that I sunk in 100 hours. Even Hollow Knight was dreadfully boring for me until I unlocked more abilities because at the beginning you didn't even have dash. I was kinda thinking maybe this would get better too after I get more skills and weapons etc but apparently not. I'll drop it. Last edited by Bortedet; 29 Sep, 2021 @ 10:26am #3
Originally posted by Solitudent:Don't compare Hollow Knight to this please. That game, while a different genre, is better narrative wise as well as gameplay wise in literally every aspect there is. The music is better as well. Eastward's biggest selling point is its visuals and even there Hollow Knight is easily holding its own compared to the game. #4Originally posted by sarmad:the narrative will get longer actually , the puzzles become a bit more tedious , imo if u r not enjoying then why play it? i myself would give it 6/10 just coz of long long dialogues and some pointless evens and charactersI ask because I get bored easily but sometimes I soldier on and then the game finally clicks and I get hooked. Originally posted by Gearwar:Not comparing them quality wise obviously, was just entertaining the idea whether they are alike in being slow at the beginning. #5Originally posted by Solitudent:I ask because I get bored easily but sometimes I soldier on and then the game finally clicks and I get hooked. Originally posted by Gearwar:This is an unreasonable response. He's early in this game asking if it gets better, using Hollow Knight as an example of something that does. From his perspective, whether or not Hollow Knight is better would still be an unknown anyways, and it's framed as a question, not a claim.--Personally, I'm finishing up Chapter 3 and I have the same issue. Everything about the game is at least okay and doesn't jump out as bad (even the mechanics aren't terrible), but after being hyped for it and strongly wanting it to be good due to being blown away by the aesthetic, only the visuals (and to some extent the music) seem exceptional so far. The storytelling pace feels very awkward, meandering, and inelegant to me, and the dialogue's charm pales in comparison to its influences (just makes me want to play the much better and more cleverly written Earthbound/Mother 3 instead). I'm still in the "is a more interesting hook going to happen soon?" phase, but it sounds like what you see is what you get.
