Introduction

Ice T is an American professional musician, rapper, songwriter, actor, record producer, and author with an estimated net worth of $65 Million.

Career

After leaving the military, Ice-T began performing as a DJ at parties to stay away from gang life and violence.

However, after a bad breakup, he started committing crimes and robbed a high-end jewelry store with his high school friends. Unfortunately, his friends were caught, but his friend Sean took the fall for him, allowing him to move on and focus on rapping.

In 1982, Ice-T recorded his first single, “Cold Wind Madness,” which quickly became an underground success.

A year later, he was featured on the show Breakin’ ‘n’ Enterin’, a documentary about the West Coast hip-hop scene. Although he had a long way to go before becoming one of the richest rappers in the world, Ice-T wasn’t going to back down.

A Rapper and Actor

Upon landing a deal with Sire Records, Ice-T released his debut album Rhyme Pays in 1987 which was certified gold.

In 1991, he released the album O.G. Original Gangster, which has since become regarded as one of the defining albums of gangsta rap. The following year, he collaborated with Quincy Jones on the song “Back on the Block” and won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo.

Around the same time, he began appearing on the silver screen, most notably alongside Denzel Washington in the action thriller New Jack City. After that, he landed roles throughout the 90s in Trespass, Johnny Mnemonic, Tank Girl, and New York Undercover.

Going His Own Way

After leaving Sire Records, Ice-T released Home Invasion with Priority Records, which peaked at no. 14 on the Billboard 200. One of his singles from that album, “99 Problems,” would later inspire Jay-Z to record his own version with new lyrics in 2003.

In 2006, he released his first rap album since 1999, titled Gangsta Rap, which was met with moderate success. Ice-T then collaborated with my hard rock and punk bands, including Motörhead, Six Feet Under, Slayer, the Exploited, and Black Flag.

He made his directorial debut in 2012 with the film Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap, which featured both mainstream and underground rappers. After years of no new solo music, Ice-T finally dropped “Feds in My Rearview” in 2019, the first in a trilogy.

Ice-T’s Acting Career

Along with his music, Ice-T has portrayed Fin Tutuola in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and won an Image Award for his performance. He also hosted the documentary series Beyond Tough on the Discovery Channel in 2002, highlighting dangerous jobs.

In 2007, he was a guest star in the MTV series Short Circuitz and was interviewed for Cannibal Corpse’s documentary Centuries of Torment. He competed on The Masked Dancer in 2020 as Disco Ball, but he ended up being the first contestant eliminated.
