Troubleshooting Problems Opening IDEA Files

Common Problems Opening IDEA Files

Adobe Illustrator CC Isn't There

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open IDEA Files" when trying to open your IDEA. Customarily, this means that Adobe Illustrator CC is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your IDEA with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your IDEA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Adobe Illustrator CC Requires Update

Your Adobe Ideas Document file is incompatible with Adobe Illustrator CC because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Illustrator CC if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Adobe Ideas Document file was created by a different (newer) version of Adobe Illustrator CC than what's installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the IDEA file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
