An idiot savant is a person with some type of mental decrement (usually classified as having some level of retardation) but has amazing specific skills, such as in computation or drawing. A main stream easy example of this would be the character Dustin Hoffman played in the movie "Rain Man." His character had autism, but he was a brilliant mathematician.
