NBA veteran Iman Shumpert was detained over the weekend at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport after police discovered a "sizable" quantity of marijuana in his backpack, according to TMZ Sports.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ Sports, after TSA screeners discovered a plastic bag inside Shumpert's bag containing what was described as a "green leafy substance," which he confirmed was marijuana, officers responded to a reported drug violation.
After a police mobile test, the substance's identity as marijuana, weighing 6.12 ounces, was established.
Before being taken into custody for marijuana possession, which the report notes happened without incident, Shumpert said he was worried about missing his trip to see his daughter and was due to board a Delta flight to Los Angeles.
Shumpert was accused of a "state jail felony," which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
Police added that Shumpert didn't have a gun when he was arrested, but did have a Glock magazine and 14 9mm rounds in his bag.

On February 23, 2021, Shumpert played his final NBA game for the Brooklyn Nets.
Prior to being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers midway through his fourth season, the former Georgia Tech star spent his first three full seasons with the New York Knicks, who took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
