The Tony-winning musical In the Heights has set a closing date of January 9, 2011. The show’s composer and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda will return to the role of Usnavi for the final two weeks of the run, beginning Christmas Day. In the Heights will have played 29 previews and 1,185 performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre upon closing. In the Heights follows the story of three days in the life of Washington Heights, a tightknit community at the top of Manhattan. Created by Miranda, who won a Tony for his Latin-flavored, hip-hop score, the show began life at off-Broadway’s 37 Arts Theatre, where it opened on February 8, 2007 and closed on July 15. In the Heights then transferred to Broadway on February 14, 2008, and opened on March 9, going on to win four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production features a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes and is directed by Thomas Kail.

The Broadway cast currently includes Kyle Beltran as Usnavi, Jordin Sparks as Nina, Marcy Harriell as Vanessa, Andrea Burns as Daniela, Shaun Taylor-Corbett as Sonny, Clifton Oliver as Benny, Priscilla Lopez as Camila, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Rick Negron as Kevin and John Rua as Grafitti Pete. In the Heights is produced by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller, Jill Furman Willis, Sander Jacobs, Robyn Goodman/Walt Grossman, Peter Fine and Sonny Everett/Mike Skipper.
