Introduction - Real-time Clock (RTC) - ABLIC Inc.

Real-time clock is a clock function used by systems that measure time even when the main device (such as MCU) is powered off. For example, even when the main battery or power supply is removed from a camera or gaming device, system can measure time by powering the real-time clock from a sub-battery or super capacitor built into that system.
ABLIC's real-time clock achieves longer battery life by ultra-low current consumption. ABLIC also proposes various time management solutions including high accuracy clock correction function, constant 32kHz output, expansion alarm, 24 bit up counter and ultra-small package.

1. Low current consumption of 0.25μA
ABLIC's real-time clock achieves longer battery life by ultra-low current consumption of 0.25µA. When using a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (3.4mAh) for backup, long-time driving of up to 13,000 hours is possible. Users are able to use smaller batteries, promoting high-density mounting.
2. High-accuracy clock correction, minimum resolution of 1ppm
The frequency deviation of a quartz crystal can be corrected over a wide range with high accuracy at a minimum resolution of 1ppm. By combining the real-time clock with a temperature sensor IC, the value of clock correction can be set according to the temperature change, enabling accurate correction if the clock becomes fast or slow.
3. Various solutions such as constant output of 32kHz
● Constant output of 32kHz (clock pulse of 32.768kHz output to MCU) A 32.768kHz clock is output to the MCU or other devices from an oscillator built into the real-time clock. This output makes a quartz crystal unnecessary, reducing the number of parts.
● Expanded alarm interrupt function, long-period setting! ABLIC's real-time clock not only has the standard day-of-the-week, hour and minute alarm interrupt functions; it also has alarm functions for the year, month and day.
● Counts up to about 30 years using 24-bit binary up-counter! The 24-bit binary up-countercounts up every 60 seconds after power-on. Users are able to ascertain the elapsed time up to about 30 years.
4. Ultra-small package SNT
The world's smallest class real-time clock enables high-density mounting compared to conventional products.
