I think they are actually being quite deliberate with that? In season 1, he's supposedly the (second) strongest person on Earth, and yet still gets routinely beaten to a pulp by just about everyone, including some random beastman guy. Nobody can even really put a scratch on his father. Makes it clear Earth is pretty much defenseless. In season 2, we learn that a lot of what he is lacking is actually mostly technique rather than raw strength. He can defeat some of the weaker viltrumites, but not really yet, usually. We also learn that there are a lot of things in the universe that are stronger than they are (from those books). In season 3, he's explicitly stated to have trained to become much stronger and faster. He is able to, at the very least, give the strongest viltrumite a good fight, and defeat him with help. Even the beast guy who almost killed him so easily in season 1 turns out to actually have been strong enough to fight any viltrumite all along, so losing to him was actually to be expected. At the same time, he spends most of the season getting almost killed by everyone again, but mostly by things and people from Earth. Additionally, several of his weaker alternate universe versions were also handled without his help. We also learn that a "full" invasion will only be a couple dozen people at most. So now we know that Earth isn't actually defenseless at all anymore. I think that's where they were going with it?That being said, the episode with the giant bugs didn't handle any of this well. by xxFelixDCatxx posted 8 months agoinkblot wrote:xxFelixDCatxx wrote:Season 3 of this show just wrapped up and I think it's one of the best things currently airing on TV right now. Glad you enjoyed it.I can understand why you didn't like the Powerplex episode. That guys whiny voice really bugged the crap out of me. Also him just blaming Mark for everything and refusing to hear the multiple people telling him that no, he's a good guy really was annoying too. That entire episode was admittedly pretty bad. But the last 2 episodes? I'm at a loss, why didn't you like them if you don't mind my asking? My biggest complaint about them is that the events in the last 2 episodes should have spanned like... 4 episodes at least, as huge and entire Earth altering as they were. But they really nailed the desperation and brutality of that last fight imo.by inkblot posted 8 months agoxxFelixDCatxx wrote:Season 3 of this show just wrapped up and I think it's one of the best things currently airing on TV right now. Will one animater please let the family leave the room, then swash them with the collateral damage?! Give us something, here!!! I want to like this shite but the actual folks makin' it are getting in the way.by WilliamDrakeMcGregor posted 9 months agoIt's still the best superhero tv show out of the U.S. currently running, but a lot of stuff felt forced in Season 3. Overall I would give the season a 3/5. Rex was my favorite character in the season, showed a lot of growth. Oliver is an annoying brat whose character development is just horrible. The fight between Mark and Cecil... storywise it was a good idea but they shold've shown a lot more scenes from Cecils side, not just flashbacks. Maybe some regret that what happened happened, him questioning himself, etc. - him just basically saying "it is what it is" didn't felt authentic for this character. For Angstrom there should've been a little bit more build-up. The spy drones and the short summary of what happened to him weren't enough for me. Maybe at the end of Episode 6 they could've shown one of the drones return through one of the green portals. This could've been the "oh damn" moment that gives me the "I can't wait for the next episode" feeling. Last episode felt like "oh we forgot to have a Viltrumite show up on earth this season, let's throw it in at the end". Marks strength was also all over the place. He either struggles to win against Cecils Cyborgs or the subsurface dwellers (and that after we saw him train for a half an episode) or he beats the most powerful Viltrumite ever (according to his own words)... I don't need to see "powerlevels" and I know that the emotional state of Mark has a lot to do with how much power he can muster, but there were fights he should've easily won. Talking about his emotional state...in almost every episode Eve has to console Mark, it was cute the first 1-2 times but at the end it got a bit annoying. I hate to say it but I think either Eve or Oliver should've died in this Season, this would've made it more authentic for Mark to say "the next person to harm my family I'll kill". by Mushily8343 posted 9 months agoI appreciate the relationships. RK can really set us up for drama. I also had to get a hold of the cbr's and am amazed even further.
