THE new iPhone is loaded with a super handy charging feature that Apple binned at the last moment, according to reports.
The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max can supposedly wirelessly charge other people’s mobiles just by touching the two gizmos together.

We’ve already seen the feature – known as reverse wireless or “bilateral” charging – in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Huawei P30 Pro, and it was heavily rumoured to come with Apple’s latest handsets, launched September 10.
However, while the tech is built into the new iPhones, Apple has blocked it from working, reports prolific leaker Sonny Dickson.
Citing inside sources, Dickson said Apple mysteriously chose to turn the feature off using software just before the phones shipped.
“Reliable sources are saying iPhone 11 and 11 Pro do include the hardware for bilateral charging, but that it is software disabled,” he wrote in a tweet about the decision.

“Uncertain whether this was removed prior to final production run.”
The new iPhones can already charge wirelessly via special charging pads that juice up your battery without the need to plug in.
Reverse wireless charging simply swaps the process around, allowing your phone to become a charging mat for other devices.
It would mean you could charge up your mate’s phone or even your AirPods on the fly.
Dickson’s comments appear to confirm other rumours surrounding Apple’s reverse wireless charging fiasco.
Everything Apple announced at its September 2019 event
Here's everything we might see...
- Three new mobiles: the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
- New 7th generation iPad
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple TV+ release date (November 1)
- Apple Arcade release date (September 19)
Earlier this month it was reported the firm dropped the feature from its new iPhones because it simply didn’t work well enough.
Dickson’s leaks are generally pretty reliable – he was one of the first to report problems with Apple’s AirPower wireless charging pad, for instance.
In March, the Sci-Fi device was seemingly shelved before it ever went on sale a full 18 months after Apple unveiled it alongside the iPhone X.
As with any rumour though, we can’t be certain this one’s true, so take Dickson’s comments with a pinch of salt.
Apple did not respond to a request for comment.
