Iron Doors Won't Open - Discussion - Minecraft: Java Edition

I'm having a problem opening iron doors. No problem with wooden ones. I can apply the iron doors but thats as far as I get. I always end up destroying it and using a wooden one instead.

Has anyone else had this problem?

You do know iron doors need redstone right?

Just put a button or a lever on a block adjacent to any part of the door or the block it's placed on. You can create more advanced circuits such as a 2-lever system where you can flip the lever on the outside to open up, walk in, then flip the lever on the inside to close the door, but those aren't necessary.

I usually place a button beside the iron door on the outside and a pressure plate in front of it on the inside of the building.

That keeps villagers (and mobs) out of my private areas.
