What Are Iron Golems and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Iron Golems are a great way to protect villagers and your base. You’ll often find them wandering around and patrolling villages. They’re known to attack all hostile mobs as soon as they see them. Players can provoke an Iron Golem by attacking villagers in its village, or by hitting an Iron Golem that wasn’t created by the player. Listed below is the amount of damage an Iron Golem will do depending on the difficulty.

  • Easy: 4.75 - 11.75 Hearts
  • Medium: 7.5 - 21.5 Hearts
  • Hard: 11.25- 32.25 Hearts

Where to Find Iron Golems

Iron Golems can be found all throughout the world in every biome. They’re commonly found protecting villages and at Pillager Outposts, where they are captured in a cage. If you free the captured Iron Golem, it’ll attack the pillagers with you.

How to Make an Iron Golem

You can also make an iron golem by making four iron blocks, which comes out to thirty-six iron ingots. Once you have the four iron blocks, you’ll need to place them in a T shape with one up and three across. After that, get a carved pumpkin and place it in the middle and the golem will be born. The T shape needed to build an iron golem is shown below.

Quick Tips and Facts

  • Iron Golems will send whatever they hit flying in the air, often causing them to take fall damage.
  • Creepers are the only hostile mob that an Iron Golem won’t attack.
  • Iron Golems are known to give poppies to villagers.
  • Iron Golems avoid cactus, lava, and fire.
  • Iron Golems can not drown or take fall damage.
  • If you do make an iron golem, make sure wherever you build it that it can’t escape, because iron golems like to wander, and it’s common for them to get lost.

When an Iron Golem dies, it doesn’t drop any XP. Listed below are items Iron Golems are known to drop upon death.

  • Iron Ingots: 3-5
  • Poppies: 0-2
