Is 'Don't Breathe 2' On HBO Max Or Netflix? When Will The Horror ...

In the 2016 horror film Don’t Breathe, everyone and their cousin kept underestimating the protagonist Norman Nordstrom—played by Tony-nominated actor Stephen Lang—simply because he was blind. Now it seems those bozos are making the exact same mistake in Don’t Breathe 2, the 2021 sequel that opens in theaters this weekend.

Directed by Rodo Sayagues, and written by Sayagues and Fede Álvarez (who also wrote the first film, which Álvarez directed), Don’t Breathe 2 takes place eight years after the events of the first film. Norman Nordstrom is now living with an 11-year-old girl named Phoenix (played by Madelyn Grace) and has, in his own way, recreated the life that was stolen from him by a drunk driver. When intruders come knocking on his door yet again, he once more will prove he is a force to be reckoned with.

WILL DON’T BREATHE 2 BE ON HBO MAX?

No. Don’t Breathe 2 is not a Warner Bros. movie. HBO Max, which is owned by Warner Media, is only the streaming home to first-run Warner Bros. blockbusters like The Suicide Squad. Because Don’t Breathe 2 is being distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it will not stream on HBO Max at the same time that it’s in theaters. While it is possible that Don’t Breathe 2 will be on HBO Max someday, it will not be any time soon.

IS DON’T BREATHE 2 ON NETFLIX?

No. Don’t Breathe 2 is not on Netflix. However, the film may be on Netflix in the coming months. Don’t Breathe 2 is a Sony film, and Sony recently signed a deal with Netflix giving the streaming service exclusive U.S. rights to stream Sony’s theatrical releases in the first pay-TV window starting with the studio’s 2022 slate. That said, Don’t Breathe 2 is a 2021 film, so it’s not clear whether it will be headed to Netflix after its theatrical run as well.

It’s hard to say when Don’t Breathe 2 will release on streaming. Earlier in the pandemic, Sony released Bloodshot on VOD just two weeks after it opened in theaters, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, Peter Rabbit 2 became available to rent for $19.99 on July 27, which was a little over six weeks after it opened in theaters. If Don’t Breathe 2 follows the same release pattern, it may become available to rent on PVOD around the last week of September.

However, Sony has not followed a consistent release pattern throughout the pandemic, so take that prediction with a grain of salt, and stay tuned for the official digital release date for Don’t Breathe 2.
