Invincible Parents Guide on Amazon Prime Video

Robert Kirkman and Corey Walker’s comic book series Invincible has been turned into an animated series for Amazon Prime Video. Seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), is just like every other guy his age, except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

Parents need to know that Invincible is not made for kids, and is full of extreme violence, language, and sexual content.

Language

Invincible has a lot of bad language including frequent uses of damn, sh**, g-ddamn, a**, a**hole, fu**, b*tch, and bastard.

Mature Content

For an animated series, even I couldn’t handle all the violence. This series is dark and includes extreme gore and a lot of gruesome violence. Characters are killed, decapitated, disemboweled, skulls are crushed, blood and guts are sprayed everywhere. Tons of blood oozing out. Frankly, it was just gross, even in animated form.

There is some sexual content where sex and masturbation are implied.

As the season goes on, it just gets worse with blood and gore and even language. Mark and his father’s relationship is so dysfunctional, and Omni-Man does such horrible things. Episode 8 is insane. The level of graphic violence is intense.

Is Invincible Appropriate for Kids Under 18?

I am not the target audience for Invincible. Nor would I recommend it for teens or anyone who isn’t an adult. If you like that old animation, gratuitous violence style, then I could see how Invincible would be for you.

I was bored during the first episode, and it was hard for me to care about these characters. That being said, there is a lot of voice talent, but I couldn’t get past the violence and how dated everything felt from the script to the animation to the story. When I have so many live-action superhero shows to watch like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and even WandaVision, I’d rather spend my time there than with Invincible.

You can’t solve the show’s problems by just making it more violent and throwing blood everywhere. But they gave it their best shot. With the season finale, they weren’t really holding back any punches. It was pure violence without remorse.
